First things first

When bands and artists approach me, usually the first thing they boast about is their Facebook likes and hits on Soundcloud.
I've got news for you guys, labels don't really care how many likes you have on Facebook. And I've seen bands with as little as 500 likes getting signed to the big labels.
You might be saying to yourselves at this point "this guys an idiot for thinking that". But seriously, think about it.

Sony/Universal/Warner etc. don't care if you have 5,000 likes, do you know why? It would take me probably 12 hours to get a band with 100 likes up to 10,000. How? Because I can buy them.

Here's the secret no-one tells you, if you have 1000 likes and 1 comment per status, the labels will know you've just annoyed your friends to liking your page - it's useless.
However, if you're a band with 1000 likes but you have 25+ comments and likes on your posts then the labels will know that you are a band worth making a note of.

What this translates to in business sense is that you're fans believe in your product enough to CARE about what your putting out there on social media. That looks GOOD! If you have 25 people liking and commenting on your pictures/status/whatever then the friends of those 25 will also see it, taking your reach into the thousands.

So guys, stop wasting your time trying to get so many people to like your page! What you need to be doing is engaging with your fans and pushing out content that is interesting. Hold competitions, votes, anything as long as people will engage. When you're at shows, leave flyers all over the place, don't stop marketing, but also don't force people to like your page. This will pay off big-time later on in your career and by having 200 very engaging fans, you'll get out there much quicker than if you had 2000 fans who don't really care!
